This morning climbed slope just south of camp to a point about 1000 ft. higher than camp. On the way up along the stream bottom saw a Jay. At the top of the hill among the rocks of which there were a few scattered piles of Granite I saw some Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels. Approximately 100 ft. down the slope I caught two Sylva around on damp ground around a spring. I shot a rock when near the spring also. Their peculiar bobbing motion while perched on the rocks attracted my attention. Sheep were heard in the distance. The air was rather cool on top of this slope & the ground was quite damp from a recent rain. July 12. Made return trip to same locality on slope behind camp at 4:00 P.M. July 11, in order to check altitude & set some rat traps at this place for the Gulls seen there. On the way to the top
