Engler 1936 Smoke Cr., 3400 ft., 7 mi. E Califline, Washoe Co., Nev. 16 July 11. Description of camp at Smoke Cr. Camp was made in a cabin about 100 yds from the road(s) + 50 yds from a stream bed on the E. This bed was lined with tall cottonwoods & willow thickets. About 75 yds south of the cabin, was a willow thicket which bordered a pool of water about 75 yds in length, 10 yds wide + over 3 feet deep. South of this pool was an alfalfa field which had been cut recently. Beyond the field & stream & surrounding the immediate camp was the open desert like country spotted with Artemisia The soil, while not loosey sandy loose sand, was comparatively sandy. Peromyscus were caught here along with Perognathus. Along the stream, among the willows + in the cabin were many Neotoma cinerea. Garter snakes were caught near the stream. Many different birds were seen in the vicinity of the camp. Lizards (Whiptail) were taken From camp many side trips were made in different directions in order to set out traps in the different surrounding habitats.
