Smoke Cr., 3400 ft., 9 mi. E Calif. line, Washoe Co., Nev. July 6. The closest water hole from camp was about 5 mi. to the south. July 7 The camp at Smoke Cr. was made in an old cabin bordering the creek. On the evening of July 6 a trapline of 40 traps, set about 50 ft. apart, was strung along the stream near the cabin. That evening two Eptesicus fuscus were shot just outside the cabin, despite a strong wind which was blowing. Bushy tailed wood rats, Neotoma cinerea were seen & heard in the attic of the cabin. Two were shot by W.C. Russell & traps were set around the house for others. Three bats were caught flying while flying around indoors, one Corynorhinus & 2 Myotis. 3 rats were caught during the night. From the trapline of the previous evening, 6 Peromyscus maniculatus, & 1 Perognathus parvus were taken. 1 Peromyscus m.m. was taken among the bushes & high grass bordering a pool of water; the rest of the catch was taken over 75 yds from the stream bed across an alfalfa field & on the edge of brush land.
