When crushed the leaves were noticed to exude moisture, perhaps this is the way the animals obtain water. It was also noted that each cheek pouch held approximately the same weight of material. Sarcobatus & Atriplex were the predominant plants. Cheek pouches of one animal were filled with seed. One pouch held large seed while the other held a smaller seed in larger numbers, again the idea of balanced nutr. in the pouches was noted.
