Engler 1936 3 mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. Aug. 5. I mountain streams winds thru the meadow & sheep were seen grazing in the lower part. Pinus monticola, Pinus contorta, Aspen, Red Fir, White Fir, Spruce, Elderberry & Artemesia, & Manganese are the main forms of plant life in the region. Just before dusk it began to hail & the birds that were seen about the meadow took shelter in the trees & bushes. 25 mouse traps were set about the meadow near granite boulders only one P. maniculatus was taken. The rest of the traps were sprung, most likely by hail stones. The mouse had been chewed up & could not be saved. a woodchuck was seen on the evening of the Aug 4, & one was taken by D.C. Smiley. This morning was spent in hunting conies. Two were taken by other members of the party. After breakfast walked N along the stream & saw the following forms of bird life.
