Engler 1936 Base Granite Peak, E Range, Pershing Co., Nev. (Cont.) Aug.5. We made camp among some Buffalo Berry brush about 25 yds from a stream bed which held little water. Atriplex & Sarcobatus were the main bushes on the immediate surrounding slopes. Two Golden Eagles circled low over the camp soon after we arrived, uttered a few sharp calls & soared out of sight. D. B. Smiley shot a cottontail & a sage sparrow early in the afternoon. Towards evening E. R. Hall & I drove W to the edge of the alkali flat where we set out about 80 mouse traps on some sand dunes, which were few in number & were not connected with each other. In fact across the width of Buena Vista Valley a continuous line of sand dunes was not found. From these traps which were set apart about 40 ft. near Atriplex & Sarcobatus bushes was taken, 3 Dipodomys meriamii, & D. micropus levipes & 5 Perognathus longi membris many of which had whitish spots on them.
