21 mi. W & 5 mi. N Lovelock, Pershing Co., Nev. Engler (July) (cont.) July 29 the edge of the dry alkali flat. No water was located within a distance of 5 mi. from the camp consequently few birds were seen. Grid iron tailed lizards were taken from the sandy hills slopes near camp. On the afternoon of the 28th. W.C. Russell & I drove across the dry lake bed, 5mi., to the mountains seen from camp in order to set traps for P. formosus & other mice that might be found in rocky places. We drove up a road 1½ mi. from th. lake bed to an old cabin which appeared to have been used by a trapper as many coyote, fox & badger skulls were found around the ground. The hills adjoining the cabin instead of being rock were gravelly with only a few bushes growing on them. I set out 26 mouse traps on the hill back of the cabin on ground that had been trampled thoroughly by sheep. From these traps 1 P. formosus, 4 Peromyscus maniculatus & 3 D. merriami were taken. From this place we drove 5 mi. to the next canyon in which a large Cottonwood tree could be seen.
