Water has to be brought in by train & probably because of this fact few birds were seen in the vicinity & these were Horned larks. Kit foxes were reported to be plentiful around Sulphur but none were seen. The workings of the badger were plentiful & Coyotes could be heard in the night. July 28 Yesterday afternoon we left camp & drove S thru the hills about 50 miles to Vernon Seven Springs, a gold mine. Directions were given us here to adobe flat 15 mi. to the south. The road was poor & we were forced to turn back. We made camp & 2 1/2 mi. S Vernon, 4750 ft., Rushing Co., Nev. 68 mouse traps were set on the low sandy hills east of the campsite, among Sarcobates. From these traps were taken 4 Dipodomys microps, 1 D. merriami, 3 Perognathus longipenis longimembris, 1 P. parvus & 1 Microdipodops. July 29 We broke camp immediately after breakfast & drove via Lovelock to a point 21 mi. W of 2 mi. N Lovelock, Rushing Co., Nev. Camp was made on flat rocky ground near sand dunes & about 1 mi. from
