Thomotyp quadrates Edge 193d June 30 2 mi. SW Pine Grove, 7250 ft. Mineral Co., Nev. 2 taken in small patch of meadow at spring just N of Camp - 1 from 3 double sets. Soil - black loam with small pieces of broken rock - July 12th Mt Grant, Sappin Canyon 8900 ft., Mineral Co Nev. Took two in thick grassy meadow by the camp - Impressed me as being a little browner than those at Pine Grove. July '3 - Took three in grassy meadow SE of camp about 100 yds - 3 sets - Several of the mounds examined had three runways leading from the mound. Soil seems to be very fine grained loam, mounds are fairly numerous in the narrow meadow or band of grass that lies on each side of the small brook which runs up the valley - In many places on the hillsides in Artemisia filled in snow runway could be found. These cylindrical structures generally ran transversely across the slope of the hill so that they should check rapid run off of water. Noted a few recent mounds out in the Artemesia, July 15 Cottonwood Creek 7400 ft., Mt Grant, Mineral Co., Nev. Took one in small meadow at top of first E slope 150 yds North of Camp - Several other Volants noted there.
