Edge 1934 July 11 Took up gopher traps this morning - nothing in the traps - The five live traps have not yielded any result tho have had them out around Camp for several nights. Left Bridge Camp before noon and left for Mt Grant via Shung - The country was barren and rocky as the road followed the west shore of the lake but many of the cliffs contained caves and large crevices - no animal life was noted but a number of aquatic birds were observed on the lake. The road up Cottonwood Canyon was about 10%o grade with willows and cotton woods along the little creek that runs down the canyon - about a mile after turning off the main road and into the canyon we encountered the pinions which extended from about 5500 to about 7500 ft. A Camp of C.C.E workers are widening and improving the road - Above the pinyons sage brush Antemaria and patches of mountain mahogany occur - the country is not precipitous but many rocky outcrops and points occur - We camped at Lapan Canyon 8900 ft. Mt. Grant, Mineral Co., Nev.
