Page 1934 Itinerary July 10th Put out 8 gopher sets along the river this morning - up stream from camp. Shot two lazuli humming and an Ammo. Took four gopher by 1:00 pm and one more about six pm [illegible] to Shot two bats at twilight. This Camp lies in a fairly broad valley with just seven thousand foot mountains to the west and a range of somewhat lesser altitude to the east. The general nature of the valley is Sandy with Atriplex - Chrysophanmus and Chaenopodium of rather luxuriant growth in many places - There are many areas of soft sand which seems to shift about a little with longing winds - The lower land close to the river is cut into small Indian farms in many places and the river bombs out possibly 1000 yds in some places support a growth of large Cottonwood trees. Our Camp was located in one of the groves and it proved to be a pleasant one. The river here is very shallow - but by digging [illegible] the middle of the stream we made a place to bathe.
