Edge 1934 Itinerary July8th cont'd. 9 trap N of camp - 3 mi S Shiny 4/00 ft. yielded 3 mammals - 2 P. maniculatus 1 Perog. longimembris- In afternoon walked around camp and shot a hairy woodpecker, an Ammosterophilus and a leopard lizard. 45 days Set out 135 gout traps in sand North of camp - Sand soft and deep in many places with large Chrysothamnus and Atriplex. 10 traps along river? banks in willows and small cottonwoods Shot a bat Pipistrellus. July9th Took 12 mammals - 9 in sand north of camp: 2 micro dipodops and 7 Dip. Merriami and 3 P. maniculatus. Shot a black throated sparrow and a barn swallow. In late afternoon visited East shore of Weber Lake - about 8 mi S. Shiny, the shore line has receded markedly apparently with recent times as all show lines are conspicuous - There are wide bands of gravel separating zones of pond - the sand zones seem well populated with P. ordii apparently in the lowest zone - Looks like it would be an excellent place to study succession. A number of birds were observed on the lake - gulls, cormorants and white pelican.
