Sandy at bottom of gulley with patches of loose sand on the gently sloping sides - vegetation scattered Atriplex of rather low habit. July 4th From the 32 traps at 11 3/4 mi S, 2 3/4 mi E Yerington, Mason Valley took 8 Mammals as follows: 4 Microdipodops pallidus. 2 Perognathus longimembris, 2 Dipodomys Merriami From 18 traps on sand ridge 10 mi S Yerington, 4500 ft. Mason Valley took 7 Mammals: 5 Dipodomys ordii, 2 Reithrodontomy. megalotis. Put out & 3 #1 steel traps along South bowl of river across from the camp. July 5th Hunted for birds this morning 10 1/2 mi S Yerington. W. Walker River, Lyon Co. No. higuer ground along river, large cottonwood trees; but off to south side swamps and willows. Considerable bird life present. Species collected are indicated in Catalogue Yours seen but not taken - Black crowned night heron, Meadow lark, Long Sparrow, Downy Wood Peeler?, [illegible] hawk?, Sparrowhawk, Quail, Wilder, Cliff Swallower, Cow-birds, Visited steel traps first thing in the morning
