Microtus montanus O faecal pellet. July 13th Lamon Canyon 8900ft Mt Grant Minard Co. Nev. Took five - 3 adults - 2 immatures from 27 golf traps set in log about 150 yards SE of the Camp - There are numerous turlocks or mounds thru which burrows run and between which the burrows run - cut grass and faeces are common in the runway - The more frequently used runways appear to be those not saturated with water nor yet dried out. The seepage which causes the burrow extends along the base of the hill - N and S for about 100 yards - Artemesia starts immediately above the seepage line - July 14 made sketch of sq meter of typical runways and burrows (looks opposite page) found a little dried grass in central burrow. pressed specimen of same - it is the common grass around the runway - a number of other mounds dug open but only a couple of thin grass lined, slightly enlarged places in the burrows found - All found had two or more openings. Faeces appeared to be accumulated in certain spots as tho the animals might have had a definite place for this purpose.
