U.M. Dagadog 1978 El Juiol, 230 m., 19.5 km. NWE Encarnacion by road. Apts. Itapua, Paraguay. 18 September around listening for other species. At 07:45 I left the hotel and took the path to the airstrip. I walked down the airstrip until I reached one of the other paths leading to the hotel, and then walked parallel to the hotel until I reached Middle Trail. I took Middle Trail until I reached the Super Fern Trail, which I took up to the Cross Creek Trail. I had never been on Super Fern Trail before, and recorded a Campephilus robustus and unidentified dendrocolaptid there. In general, there seemed to be a relatively large amount of vocalizing going on around that trail, even though the wind was sometimes very strong and whipped the treetops about. I took the Bamboo Trail back to the hotel, returning at 11:45. At 15:45 I took the path to the airstrip and spent until 17:30 in the area in which they were trucking out gravel. The wind was still very strong, and the main vocalizers were the Great Kiskadees (Pitangus sulphuratus), House Wrens (Troglodytes aedon) and Chestnut- Rufous Collared Sparrows.
