I took a path to the airstrip, then walked the main road to about ½ mile past (SE) Becker's Forest, to the field on the NW side of the road that is bordered by very large eucalyptus trees. I spent most of my time looking into the fields along the road, trying to find some different species. There were many Rufous-collared Sparrows also (Zonotrichia capensis) along the road, and their song was by far the most common. I took the same route back to the hotel. and returned at ___________ After dinner I left the hotel with Ned Johnson and Anne Jacobberger to look for owls and caprimulgids. Ned called from near the airstrip and the gravel pit, but there was no response. We did hear a caprimulgid, but it seemed to be very far off to the NE.
