Itapua, Paraguay. 5 September There was a relatively large number of species in the gravel pit area, though most species were singing or calling only briefly and would not respond to playback. After recording in the gravel pit area I walked up the Airstrip Trail to manakin lek #IV, then turned back and arrived at the hotel at 13:00. This afternoon I arrived at the gravel pit at 16:00. I stayed in the area for an hour, but the only steady vocalizing I heard was from distant Basileuterus leucoblepharus, Thamnophilus coerulescens and doves. I then went back to the hotel area, where I listened for birds until 17:50. 6 September From 05:45 to 07:00 I walked around the hotel buildings and down the road to the highway. There was a heavy overcast and the temperature was cool. From 07:45 to 10:45 I stayed at the glavel pit. I then walked down the airstrip to the tung orchard.
