El Jirol, 230 m., 19.5 km. NNE Encarnacion by road,
Dpto. Itapua, Paraguay.
2 September: weather was cool, with an overcast sky
and no strong winds.
From 05:45 to 07:30 I walked around the
Hotel El Jirol buildings, recording. (To
simplify identification of the buildings,
I am labelling them with numbers on
the map. I will also draw in and label
structures not shown on the original map.)
At 07:45 I left the hotel area and took
the following route: from the airstrip
to tung orchards and manioc fields, out
to the road and then into the pasture
by the road (which I'm labelling
pasture #1), through Becker's forest to
the castor tree area, across the pasture
(#2) to the 'cut over, grazed forest', back
through pasture #2 to the field which
has been recently plowed (not on
original map, I'm drawing it in) and to
the airstrip. I returned to the hotel
at 12:25.
From 16:20 to 17:40 I recorded around
the hotel buildings. A large group of people
was arriving at the hotel, and it was
difficult at times to hear birds over
the people noise. There were very few
