M. Dziadosz 1978 El Jiol, 230 m., 19.5 km. NNE Encarnacion by road, Dpto. Itapua, Paraguay. 31 August We arrived at Hotel El Jiol last night. This morning Mercedes Foster took Anne Jacobberger, Red Johnson, Gene Schupp and I on a tour of the El Jiol area. Mercedes has given each of us a map of the El Jiol area which has the names which Bob Jones and she gave to the creeks, paths and landmarks of the area. I will include a copy of the map (which is two pages long) and will refer to places by the names given to them on the map. At 13:15 this afternoon I left the hotel to record birds. The equipment I am using is a Uher 4000 Report IC tape recorder powered by nicad rechargeable batteries, a Sennheiser MKH 804 microphone and battery pack, a Uher W214 headset and a Sennheiser windscreen. The weather was clear and cool (approximately 65%) with medium to strong winds. I walked along the airstrip, across the tung orchard and castor trees areas to Becker's forest, and back. There was very little vocalizing going on, though I did get some recordings. I returned to the hotel at 15:45.
