Madam 1954 30 May April 17 Barni Bura Valley, elev. 12,600 ft., Nepal. Ang thorbu (Shepa-milnu) has shot a pheasant from this region of the barn some time this morning & has brought it to Base Camp for skinning (see earlier note for [description] of this bird). The feathers are about the head of this bird (W.P. 101.) is covered with Mallophaga; there must be at least 40 lice; about 20 of them are preserved by L. Swan. Crop contents of the pheasant is composed of Rhododendron flowers, green grass shoots, and twigs. Barni Bir. Valley, elev. 15,500 ft (Base Camp) Nepal. There is much green grass about 1½" high, and a low green forbi (1" high) in the Base Camp area now. No plants flowering here yet. Weather has been constantly clear in the mornings becoming overcast by about noon with usually a light snow shower in the afternoon (averaging about 1"). The snow rarely remains on the ground overnight. Humidity at 8:00 A.M. has been be- tween 60 & 80%. Minimum temperatures have averaged around 30°F & maximums about 50°F. (See N.
