May 4 (cont.) 1454 Barren Rts. Valley S. SW. of Mahulu, elev. 15,500ft, Nepal. 8:40 A.M. A pilea (Ochotona?) is seen feeding on a grassy area below the talus near camp & is shot. (W.W.D. 95). Part of day is spent putting up the 3 specimens & traps are checked & left over night. Today Angtharling shot a partridge from the slopes above camp (see sp. account), slight snowfall this afternoon. May 5 Again 2 voles are caught in the small traps near our tents. There is no apparent efternal evidence of this species here: no runways or burrows. (W.W.D. 97, 98). None of the long traps were opening. 96 9:30 A.M. Two Pikas are seen scampering about the talus slopes above camp and one of these is shot (W.W.D. 96) 100 11:00 A.M. Angtharling shot a pigeon /Snow Pigeon - W.W.D. 100) near the ridge across from camp (see sp. account). The three mammals the pigeon & yesterday's partridge (W.W.D. 99) are put up during the day. Traps are inspected & taken in in late afternoon; nothing caught. It has been clear most of the day with only slight snowfall in late afternoon. There is some ground snow under the talus blocks remaining from the daily showers.
