murdammi April 22, sat. 1954 8:00 A.M. A [illegible] Creeper is seen feeding on the upper limbs of a fir. The bird feeds on the bottom of the horizontal branches as often as on the top & is constantly moving except when pecking at the bark. After missing one shot at the bird which only causes it to flit to another limb, the bird is taken on the 2nd firing (W.W.D. 77.) 1:15 P.M. My Sherpa helper examines the trap lines & brings back one vole caught in a meadow traps across a trail. From condition of animal it was probably caught in the early morning (W.W.D. 85) Entire day is spent putting up the 12 specimens. Cloudy dry wind today but only a slight rain in the afternoon partly clearing dry clouds. 77 8:30 A.M. A flycatcher is shot from atop a dry limb (W.W.D. 84) 6:00 P.M. Trap lines are examined again, nothing caught. Bird flesh is exchanged for fig or walnut meat in some of the rat traps & a #1 steel trap is set on a small trail (8" wide) on t-moss in the fir forest across the stream (trigline #3).
