W.B. Davis 1936. 533 Alkali Lake Ranch, lake Co., Oregon. may 24. Set out 80 mouse traps in the sand dunes about 2\frac{1}{2} mi. NE of the sand house. This place is just at the gate that enters the ranch. The dunes were rather low, 10 - 15 ft., and in places were composed of an alkali base with drifted sand on top. The chief vegetation was (Atriplex, Artemisia, and Chrysothamnus). I took only 2 [illegible] Microdipodops) megacephalus and had the terminal third of the tail of a Dipodomys in one trap. Dipos tracks were everywhere and nearly every trap had been visited but not disturbed. Used rolled oats for bait. Something else is needed. The two Microdipodops were taken (1) in coarse sand - caught by the head, so had taken the bait, (2) in very fine) sand,-caught by the tail which was thus badly damaged. Pequegnat had out 20 traps in a similar area and took one (Peromyscus) maniculatus and 1 Microdipodops. we set out 7 traps around camp, by the cabin, and around the food cases. Took 2 Peromyscus maniculatus, one young, which was discarded, Myotis californicus were rather [illegible] melanarchus
