of Say Phoebes have a nest in the
barn, in which four young, nearly
ready to leave the nest.
Last night just at dusk a flock
of about 200 Ravens circled over the
hay stack, as if looking for a place
to roost, and then flew away headed
south. They came from the east. Have
seen several Ravens today. An old
granary, once used as a home, had
hundreds of pellets under one of the
rafters on the second floor. A feather
from the tail of a Raven indicated
that this species roosted there and
had regurgitated the pellets. I examined
some of the pellets and found remains of
rabbits and caudal vertebrae of some
larger mammal. In this same building
a pair of Barn Swallows and a pair of
Say Phoebes are nesting.
Killdeer are here, too.
There are several good sand dunes
on the east side of the lake bed
and a few at the north end, but
none here. On the east side of the
lake bed I saw evidence of the presence
of Dipodomys.
