May 22, Out of the 56 traps set last night I took the following 18 Zapus p. major, 1M & Peromyscus maniculatus, 1498 of same, and 149 ? Microtus mordax. Only the Zapus was saved. It was taken in the same trap at the same place as two others, although I had 30 traps in the small area, 150'x 40', where I had taken them previously. Spent the morning in camp making up specimens). Looked at the Jamesi nest about 11:30. Still 5 eggs, & incubating. Took two pictures of the nest. Did not have my egg drills along, so left the set and the parent birds. Packed up and left this camp about noon. Found out we had been camped in the Warner Mountains, type locality of Zapus p. major. Mammals collected x seen at this camp. 1. Zapus p. major 2. Microtus mordax 3. Peromyscus maniculatus 4. Thomomys quadratus 5. Eutamias amoenus 6. Callospermophilus 7. Marmota flaviventris - 1 noted 8. Odocoileus - tracks seen.
