It seems that the pocket gophers migrate off the drier hill sides in the summer and go toward the stream where moisture conditions perhaps are more favorable, at any rate most of the earth cores are on the hillside, amongst Artemisia, while most of the occupied burrows are nearer the stream. Most of my additional traps are set along a small hill that flows down a gully from the north. There appeared to be evidence of small rodents in many places along it. Pequegnat found a nest of a fawnce yesterday evening across the creek and about 100 ft. up stream from camp. There were four eggs in it there &
