W.B Davis 1936 520 2 mi. E Lakeview, Lake Co., Oregow. May 20 5200 ft. Juniperus sp., and Cercocarpus sp. June grass is plentiful everywhere on this slope and is still green under the junipers. I left my traps out all day in hopes of getting chipmunks, but failed. Haven't slew a single one so far though the habitat of both minimus and amoenus appears to be here. I found the dead carcass of a porcupine and a Nestoma. The skull of the latter was saved. In addition to the traps I had out today, I set out 32 additional ones in likely looking places for Zapus and Microtus.. The Zapus taken this A.M. was caught in a trap set in a runway in the low dead grass in amongst Artemisia about 20 feet from the north bank of the creek. It apparently was dead when I picked it up this A.M. but by 10 A.M., it had revived somewhat and, was able to move its head and all four legs. It had been caught by the tail and one rear leg. I didn't attempt to see if it would revive completely, but at any rate, in contrast to the other strictly homothermous specimens taken, this animal was able to survive cold weather - animal partly covered
