Made camp by the side of a small creek in association of juniper, sage, Linus muryana), Rhiles etc Placed out 20 mouse traps near the creek; in dry grass in the Artemisia); at the edge of the stream; in rocky situations. Visited the traps this A.M. at about 6:30. Took 4 Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 Zapus). Nothing in traps at edge of creek. This locality is about 200 ft. higher than the town of Lakeview and is reached via Center St. of that town. The creek arises in the snow-capped mountains east of here, Warner Mts? Snowed last night and has been overcast and cold all day. Spent most of the day in camp making up skins of specimens taken yesterday near McCloud, Calif. and here. Last night just after dark a pair of Plocewills was heard across the canyon and at 8:00 - just at dusk - I saw and shot at at Hooved Owl, The canyon runs roughly in an east-west direction and the north facing slope is rocky and overgrown with pines).
