W.B. Davis 1936. 5/18 2 mi. E Lakeview, 5200 ft., Lake Co., Oregon. May 19. Left Berkeley May 18, at 10:30 in company with Willis Pequegnat. Drove to McCloud via Proville the first day and set out 20 traps along Soda Springs Creek, about 3 mi. SE McCloud that evening. Saw many Myotis feeding above the creek, but failed to take any. Visited the traps this H.M. and had only 5 Peromyscus maniculatus. Nothing in traps set for Sorex palustris. Left McCloud about 10 H.M. and drove to this place, arriving here shortly after 5 P.M. Came via Burney Falls, Alturas to Lakeview. East of McCloud - 9-12 mi. we saw several Eutamias which had been run over by automobiles. Saved one, but the head was smashed. At 15 mi. E McCloud we saw several Callospermophilus. I collected one. It had its burrow under a stump and when I approached it retreated. Stayed down 10 minutes. Saw several Citellus douglasii near Burney Falls, at Beiber we saw the first Citellus oregonus and collected one 3 mi. S Adin. Most of those seen were young or subadult. The one taken was subadult. Many young of year out now.
