W.B. Davis 1936 510 510 Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. March 14, This morning our Zoology 11/3 class worked on the Microtus project on Twilight Way hill. In one plot, under the supervision of W.J. Shubblefield, a nest of the Collontal Sylvilagus Rockmani was exposed. It was placed in an excavation on the surface of the ground and measured about 6"x6" and 6" deep. This cavity was well lined with underfur of the parent rabbit and in this nest were three young. One was given to me which was photographed by Bruce Whittaker. The young: The one I have measure 100 mm. in total length; tail 6 mm.; hind foot 20 mm.; ear from notch 13 mm.; ear from base 14 mm. Color: upper surface black; forehead black with short tomentose brown over hairs which extends from an area between the eyes back to the within 4 mm. of the ears; area between ears light brownish with a dark median stripe; inside of ear thinly clothed with nearly whitish hair; nose pad sooty black, covered with whitish tomentose hairs; white patches lateral to each nostril; mystacial vibrissae 30 in all, arranged in 6 rows, white, about 3mm. long
