W.B. Davis 1936. Bellevue, Blaine Co., Idaho. Jan. 6. Rode to Shoshone today with Mr. Warley Head and Kenneth Ennis. These two dropped me off there and they continued south to Jerome and picked me up about 6 P.M. This evening. The day was clear, but a strong east wind made it uncomfortable to remain out of doors for long. I collected near Shoshone along Little Wood River from 11 A.M. to about 3 P.M. Birds were scarce for the most part. I saw the following birds near Shoshone: Song Sparrow. These were in the thickets along the stream. They were feeding for the most part on the ground where the snow had been melted. Here they scratched much as does a Gambel Sparrow. Juncoes, one large flock of about 50 birds was seen. The birds kept in the willows, but did most of their feeding on the ground. Both Song Sparrows and juncoes were seen feeding side by side. Black-capped Chickadee - Three or four seen; Mountain Chickadee - 1 seen. Both these species were with the Juncoes and Song Sparrows. Black-billed Magpie Several noted; Red-shafted Flicker, six.
