Rupert, Minidoka Co., Idaho, Dec. 25.
Drove to a drain ditch two miles S.E.
of Rupert. Spent from 1-4 P.M. in the
field. Was clear and cold with a
slight west wind. No snow, but ice
on the ditches.
Saw the following birds): 1. Sharp-
skinned Hawk, 2. Junco sp. Flock
of about 30; 3. Song Sparrow, 4. Willow
Goldfinch - two, 5. English Sparrow,
Common around ranch houses.
I took one each of the Song Sparrow,
Junco and Goldfinch.
I looked for muskrats along the
drain, but saw no sign in the
mile that I walked.
Dec. 26.
Drove to Oakley, then across the mountain
to Elba and back to Rupert via Alden.
The day was clear and cold. Still
no snow.
On the way to Oakley I collected two
Roughlegs; one I shot, and the
other I picked up, slightly injured,
of the highway. It had evidently been
eating a dead rabbit and had been
hit by a car. I saw several American
Cranes a few miles north of Oakley.
