W.B Davis 1935 Shoshone Falls, Snake River, Twin Falls Co., Idaho. 446 July 10 Judge the species to be quadratus. Oregon Ground Squirrels were reported as having been present at this ranch a week previously, but I saw none in the 1/2 hour I hunted for them. Perhaps they have aestivated. I noticed at Elba that very few - and in some cases no - squirrels were to be found in areas where I had found them abundant a month previously. Arore down here about 6:00 p.m. and set out 45 mouse traps - half on each side of the river - amongst the rocks at the bottom of the basalt cliffs that border the river. The river here is about 200 yards across and is confined between cliffs about 300 or 400 feet high. Very little water is going over the falls. Along the bank of the river are willows and wild roses; back farther a few Artemisias are present, and June Grass is common. Saw hundreds of Cliff Swallows nesting on the cliffs overhanging the water and heard Chats, Song Sparrows, Yellow Warblers and Yellow-throats in the willows. Saw one Junager (western) in the canyon.
