Kaufman, Clark Co., Idaho, June 27
mouse traps half in the lava,
where it had been made for the
railroad and the other half of
the edge of the Artemisia—in a
half sand—half gravel type of soil,
where it bounded the right of way.
I was camped at the place where
the railroad crosses the old bed
of Big Lost River).
June 25. I found 10 Peromyscus
maniculatus and one Neotoma
in the traps I set the evening
before. All were saved. I put up
skins until about 2:00 P.M., and
then hunted round for Littlusa mollis.
I found very few indications of
their presence save in the area
that was cleared around the C.R.
station and here I saw and took
only two young ones. They appear
to me to be identical with those
taken at Taber and at Arco. I
hunted here for about 4 hours,
and after taking only two—the
only two I saw—I decided to
drive back to the locality 3 mi.
