It is of interest to note that the Arcs of 1889 when Bailey was collecting in this area was about 4 miles down the river from its present site. The town was moved when the Railroad was extended from Blackfoot to Mackay. Pioneer is 17 miles in a direct line S E of Arcs, and since Bailey and Dutcher collected 15 mi. SE of the old town of Arcs, Pioneer is very near their old camp site. June 24. The morning of the 24th I went hunting for squirrels that I had heard whistling near camp and was quite surprised to find they were C. armatus. They were numerous in the fields near the old river bed and I succeeded in collecting five of them in about an hour's hunting. This is the only place so far that I have found this squirrel on the N W side of Snake River. They are not on that side of the
