Gophers were reported as
numerous - squirrels scarce.
I hunted for and made 5 sets
for gophers in a wheat + alfalfa
field. Got two 2. townsendie
after waiting until about 6: P.M to
look at my traps. Did not reset.
According to this rancher a
few years ago there were very
few gophers in his fields, but
since the formation of the
American Falls Reservoir they have
been a serious pest and at the
present time the canal company
is offering a 10c bounty on them.
He attributes their presence there
now to their being forced out
of the river bottom by the
rising water, thus forcing
them into the irrigated areas.
Here again we find Thomomy
townsendie on both sides of the
river - here and in the Nampa
area, but between these two
widely removed areas they are
supplanted by the smaller
quadrates on the south, and
frescua on the north side of the river.
