W.B. Davis 1935. Aro, Butte Co., Idaho. June 23, I made 5 gopher sets and after about three hours I took them up - catching 2, one an old ?, saved, the other a very young ?, dicards. These gophers are of the quadratus type and were found in damp- not wet - clay-loam soil along the river. The whole valley in this area is of that peculiar loose type of soil. Back from the river - outside the irrigated areas - Artemisia and Atriplex were common. Both Citellus mollis and C. oregonne were taken here. The former was most abundant at the margins of the farm where they met the rolling hills. There they were to be found burrowing along the fence, a post being a favorite spot by which to dig. Others were in the more open places where Artemisia and Atriplex were growing.
