Rupert, Minidoka Co., Idaho, June 18, Between Malta and Sublett, that is in Roth River valley proper, there is an area, thousands of acres in extent in which only cacti and a very dwarfed Artiples is growing. I hunted through this area for Citellus mollis but failed to find any. There were numerous old burrows and mounds, however, indicating their presence there at one time. I drove on across the flat toward Malow Creek south of Sublett and as the land increases in elevation the cacti decrease in numbers and Artemisia becomes dominant. I found no C. mollis until I reached the old wash of Malow Creek where it leaves the mountains. Here there were a few living in a sandy clay soil that was like adobe in consistency.
