Mr. Ragains said that he had two kinds of gophers in his fields but that he and the dog kept them down to bed rock. He said one kind was the little brown gophers and the other one is the big blue one, indicating Z. quadratus or T. townsendii. I found only one fresh burrow and made one set. An hour later when I returned I found the trap set off but only a few hairs in it. These were from a T. townsendii. Mr. Ragains also told me that the "white-tailed Squirrel", Ammospermophilus was to be found there. This sow had caught several of them last year. His descriptions of Ammo. were quite accurate. He did not remember having seen C. leurodon. Reported that muskrat and Skunk were quite common. He showed me a skunk den, but I had no still traps with me. I took a walk in the foothills back from the river (south) and failed to locate any Ammo. but I did find and collect one C. leurodon. It was
