W.B. Davis 1935. 384 2 mi. S Melba, Canyon Co., Idaho, May 28, This morning I looked at my traps at our camp 5 mi. S of Murphy and found only a single young Peromyscus which I discarded. I believe the rodents were living more in the open. We spent the morning making up specimens and broke camp about noon and drove to Reynolds Creek about 14 miles west of Murphy and from there to Melba and then to our present camp at the ranch of a Mr. W.S. Pline. Our camp is at the north end of a big volcanic butte, whose side toward the river has numerous cliffs. The small valley to the north is under cultivation, alalfa being the chief crop. No native trees other than willow and cottonwood. At Reynolds Creek we stopped at the Adams ranch and collected for about four hours. Citellus oregonus were numerous and we took 11, saving only four adults. Aldrich set out 6 gopher sets and took two & quadratus and found one & dead, the skull of which was saved.
