Murphy, Owyhee Co., Idaho, May 25, there are less than 800 (vide Mr. Neals.), Artemisia, Atriplex and Grayia are the chief plants, The first two being dominant and the latter usually found in association with the Atriplex. All the soil is of the clay loam type and some of it appears to resemble adobe. There is very little alkali present. Amargosa is the dominant herb in this region. It is found in large areas and from a distance looks like a field of grass. There is very little grass to be found, and what there is, is found in scattered very small patches, the plants being well spaced. The weather for the past two day has been ideal. The sky has been clear, the sun hot, yet a prevailing westerly wind has made it not unbearable. Tonight the sky has clouded over and it looks like rain.
