B Davis 1935. 352. Castle Creek, 8 mi. S Creana, Owyhee Co., Idaho. May 22. I looked at my gopher traps yesterday morning and took one & on the south side of the river and two &'s on the north side, all three were saved. I looked at the set made for skunk and found a female caught by a front foot. There were two traps in the set and one had been buried by the animal so that I couldn't drag the beast to the water to drown as per Mr. Ebert's suggestion, so killed her with two charges of no. 12 shot in the hip area. This prevented her from lifting her tail and thus avoided scent. She looked as if she had been sucking young. Her den was dug into the bank of a clay-loam wash and had a good supply of green and dried litter about the opening. There was no odor around the den. We left this camp about noon with the idea of driving to Murphy to hunt ground squirrels. We stopped at Mountain Home to buy a few groceries and mail letters and from there drove to Grand View and then on to Creana, a post office station.
