Salmon Creek, 8 mi. W Rogerson,
Twin Falls Co., Idaho. May '35.
Went down into the canyon below
the dam at 6:00 A.M. to look at my
traps. Out of 12 traps, 10 of which were
set at the base of the cliffs on
the west side of the stream and
two along the stream, I took
2 Peromyscus maniculatus
5♂ Peromyscus crinitus
1♂ Sorex sp.
The Sorex was taken in one
of the traps set in a mossy area
where a spring comes out of
the east side of the canyon.
The trap was baited with rolled
oats and there was good evidence
that the shrew had eaten part
of the bait. When I got to it, some
water beetles had eaten part of
the flank area. There should be
Navigator shrews on the creek,
but none was taken.
The crinitus were all taken at
the base of the cliffs. I found
numerous places where they
were occupying a habitat similar
to that occupied by Meriones. They
make little trails at the base of
the cliffs where they are accustomed
