Connects the valley with Villa Corona to the
NW, and possibly farther. The birds found
on Serra de Tafalca were probably derived
from the valley population, since the Sierra
de Tafalca was probably entirely pine covered
at one time. It seems probable that there
is a continuous population from Lake
Chapala to Guadalajara, one branch of
which goes up the valley to Sayula, t
on up onto the Sierra de Tafalca, and
continues along the low country from Sayula
to C. Guzman, & probably from C. Guzman to
Tuxpan, where Blaket Hanson collected L.
fuscus fuscus. It is hard to conceive
of an endemic race between Zacualca t
Ciudad Guzman.

The country for about 75 miles northeast
of Guadalajara is mostly lush farmland.
It changes very gradually farther northeast,
and the grass cover becomes shorter, and there
is more tuna cactus and thorn scrub. In the
vicinity of San Juan de los Lagos, the terrain is
