Tepilo fuscus Town of Oryaba, Vera Cruz, Mex. to Chalchicomula, that is, Mex. July 11, 1946 Leaving the town of Oryaba, we drove back up the grade to 7100 ft (kilometer marker 22), at which point the road turns off to Chalchicomula, some 36 miles away. '1/2 mile beyond the turn-off, altitude 7300 ft, the vegetation was predominantly oaks and dense Saccharis. For several miles the terrain was much the same. In this stretch, Tepilo fuscus was seen commonly, Lepiloma culatus was seen and heard commonly, Aphel- lotorna caeruleseca was seen commonly, as were green-backed goldfinches. Catbams sp. was also heard. About 5 miles past the turn-off, at 7600 ft, Brown Towhees were common, near the town of Terro Gordo. Other sight records for Brown Towhees are: San Antonio Soledad, 7400 feet, 10 miles past the turn-off; Esperanza, 7750 feet, 18 miles past the turn-off; 22 mi. past the turn- off; and Chalchicomula, 8200 feet, 36 mi. past the turn-off. We drove above the town of Chal- chicomula to an elevation of 10,350 feet, and Brown Towhees were observed commonly along the roadside so well above 9000 feet, above the town of Ojo de Agua.
