Mexico, D.F. to 6 mi. N. of Pachuca, 9600 ft., Hidalgo, Mex. June 30, 1946 Left Mexico, D.F. at about 7:15 a.m. and drove north on camino nacional n° 1, until we reached the turn-off to Pachuca. We drove to Pachuca, and then east to Real del Monte, an old Bulldock locality, the type locality of Lipilo macrongs macrongs and L. maulatus maulatus. Drove north out of Real del Monte looking for fir-country between Real del Monte and El Chico, but about 2 miles out of town we ran into laborers working on the road, and they told us that the road was impassable. We returned to Real del Monte, and asked for the road to El Chico, but made wrong turn and went past Realdel Monte on the road to Oruitlan. We stopped and asked directions, and were told that the El Chicoturn-offlies between Realdel Monte and Pachuca, so once again we returned to the town and took the road back toward Pachuca, finding the El Chicoturn-off leading north a few miles west of Realdel Monte. The road toward El Chico passes on an upward grade through oak and desfarral, and in about 2 miles through oak-fir forest. At about 2 1/2 mi. from the turn-off, elev. 9275 ft., the forest is mostly fir, with juniper understory. About 4 1/2 mi. from the turn-off we entered a national park. There was a guard station at the entrance, and we spoke to the guard for some time. He told us that there was a nice camp ground about 3 kilometers
