K Dixon 1951 Journal March 3. Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge, 7 mi S Alamo, Hidalgo Co, Tex. George Unland, patrolman who resides on the refuge, identified two pigeons which circled The headquarters [illegible] as being the Red-billed Pigeon (first spring). He also thought he saw a Band-tailed Pigeon (dark body, light belly). I left the headquarters at 9:45 and drove down toward the river. I saw a White-eyed Vireo in an area of more closely spaced trees than the headquarters area. The song I recorded as "whick fuzzee the bear" repeated over and over. I spent about 20 minutes along the river noting Harris' Hawk and Myrtle Warbler only. Leaving the refuge about 10:40 I drove to San Benito to Harlingen arriving there at 11:50. March 4. L. Derby Davis of Harlingen took me on a drive up the river in the vicinity of San Juan and La Feria. 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. We drove along the levee roads for the most part. Derby Flycatcher - one along small stream with wooded banks Sharp's Seedeater - one in lawn of farmhouse. Ponds near Santa Maria, Cameron Co, Texas White Ibises (4) Roseate Spoonbill Snowy Egret White Pelican Louisiana Heron (1) Mexican Cormorant Dowitcher (Long-billed?)
