As I approached & before I saw what was giving the call I was startled by a bellow which I recorded as "scoot", a rasping sound somewhat like a saw makes when it needs to be oiled. There were at least two deer present. I left the park at 1:15 after discussing with Mr. Kohl such matters as the Pine Canyon where a relict Rocky Mtn. flora exists, a wet cave where salamanders and bats might be found and plumage variants among Band-tailed Pigeons, palled individuals with tail band barely distinguishable which nested apart from the main colony.
