Mch 15, 5:54 mate in tree to E & other joined it, mate worked on foliose lichen - covered back to some extent where one bird which had joined it backed in sun for most part. more active bird working through smaller branches steadily but picked at objects very seldom "Basker" darted at another mouse nearby on limb of oak 5:57 chee tooey as "pursued" flew to next oak W and "Basker" followed not active pursuit. Mate of basker followed. At 6:02 3 mice in top of tree to W. One followed another in the middlest part of lead up to a possible approach threat. Pursued then - fell lower than other two in extreme top of post oak. At 6:04 one of the top birds flew to oaks N of grassy clearing Ex posed field. Bird lower in tree followed, then other topmost bird. Across the glade I could hear chub dub dub and here some antagonism was shown. One bird foraged & I saw two in othe 30 ft SE - no pursuit, just wary watching. One of the two apparently left and I watched the other as it moved along W. A chickadee brawl was taking place simultaneously and I thought that two chickadees were following he bit. They went straight as it turned however. The latter gave a chickadee call at 6:11, then perched in the crotch of a heavy twig in a post oak sapling 8 ft above ground. It remained there perhaps a minute but moved on as a pair of chickadees moved into adjacent tree. One chickadee actually explored tree where mouse had been.
