A Dixon 1947 Journal June 23. Yellowstone River, 7 mi. NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co., Montana. on line bearing 315° T directly to river. See next page. Noted Eastern Kingbird harassing ? Marsh Hawk; squealing cry at same time. Kingbird perched and Hawk continued calls. First time I seen in area although ? had been noted several times, beating back & forth across meadows. Few mammals taken possibly correlated with infrequency of visits. Located pair ? Sparrow Hawks in dead cottonwood at edge of meadow - no shot afforded. Located group 2 Hyla calling at 7:30 PM in pool (permanent) near spring. Frog cases singing at my approach. I located several clinging to grass near edge of pool by five feet with heads above surface. Singing was resumed and I watched one move forward and group grasps culm with right hind leg, distend vocal sac with half 2 body above surface and sing. Caught this ? and another frog and caught one ? mounted on back 2 & clashing same; pair had been clashing for several minutes. June 24. Yellowstone River, 7 mi. NE Glendive, 2000 ft., Dawson Co., Mont. Broke camp at about 7:00 AM, proceeding to Glendive. Departed at 11:15 proceeding through Miles City to Roschnd and hence south to Ashland.
